Resident & Occupant

Design and architecture practice voonwong&bensonsaw team up with young animator Spencer Cross to create this shrot animated film. With the music being written by Mark Good of live dance music group Portmanteau, the film showcases some of their architecture and furniture designs.

Spencer Cross:
The starting point for me was voonwong&bensonsaw’s Origami Lamp, when I saw it’s many fragmented facades as windows into a story.

Looikng at the scenes in the film from different perspectives reminds me of how Voon and Benson operate as designers and architects everyday. They look at problems from a unique perspective, whether it’s designing furniture, objects or the interior of a building.

The film details the pursuit between a man and a playful visitor who he one day discovers at the foot of his bed. This cheeky interloper leads the man into an environment inspired by the shapes and aesthetics of voonwong&bensonsaw’s furniture and design.
